What Is Rural Development & Poverty ?

Rural development refers to the process of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in rural areas. Since a large portion of the population lives in villages, rural development is essential for the overall progress of a country. It aims to reduce poverty, unemployment, and inequality between rural and urban areas.

Rural development includes better agricultural practices, irrigation facilities, and access to modern technology to increase farm productivity. It also focuses on providing basic amenities such as clean drinking water, sanitation, electricity, healthcare, education, and proper housing. Development of roads and transport helps villagers connect with markets, schools, and hospitals.

Employment opportunities through small-scale industries, cottage industries, and skill development programs play a vital role in strengthening the rural economy. Government schemes and self-help groups support farmers and rural entrepreneurs by providing financial assistance and training.
